This is Scott Barnes with the Voice of New Jersey Audubon for
Thursday September 15, 2005 with reports of SABINE'S GULL, BUFF-
BREASTED SANDPIPER, HUDSONIAN GODWIT, CONNECTICUT WARBLER, LARK
SPARROW, YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD, seasonal and local reports of
A SABINE'S GULL was found at the Warren Green Acres site in Somerset
Count (DeLorme P. 31, N-16) Sep 11no reports since. Also there on
Sep 10 was a CONNECTICUT WARBLER. Reach Warren Green Acres from Rt.
78 exit 36 and proceed south from the exit to the first left onto
Mountain View Rd and less than one mile to a small parking area on
the left (north) side of the road, just past the Widener Dairy Farm.
The Johnson Sod Farm in Deerfield had an amazing 60+ BUFF-BREASTED
SANDPIPERS, 80 AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVERS, 30 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, and
one BAIRD'S SANDPIPER Sep 10. All of the birds were in the grassy
areas off Olivet Rd. Johnson's Sod Farm is along Rt. 77 between
Shirley and Deerfield along the Cumberland/Salem Co. border (DeLorme
P. 62). Please park on the shoulder, bird cautiously and safely from
public roads, and do not enter the fields or disturb farm operations.
Sightings from Palmyra Cove Nature Park Sep 10-11 included OLIVE-
SIDED FLYCATCHER, GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH, PHILADELPHIA VIREO, 21 species
of warbler including TENNESSEE WARBLER, WORM-EATING WARBLER, CAPE MAY
WARBLER, BAY-BREASTED WARBLER, MOURNING WARBLER, and CONNECTICUT
WARBLER; and 3 BLUE GROSBEAKS.
Sightings from Brigantine NWR Sep 10-11 included the AMERICAN WHITE
PELICAN, 2 SORAS, 35+ AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS, MARBLED GODWIT,
HUDSONIAN GODWIT, 18 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS, 3 BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS, 8
BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS, 4 CASPIAN TERNS, and a female YELLOW-HEADED
BLACKBIRD. Check the sightings log there for daily reports and
Great Bay Blvd near Tuckerton had 26 BROWN PELICANS Sep 11.
Eight AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVERS were noted along Herbert Rd near the
entrance to Assunpink WMA Sep 11.
A COMMON RAVEN was found at the Cedar Ridge Preserve near Hopewell
Sandy Hook reports this week included YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON, 2
YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHERS, 14+ species of warbler, and a Dickcissel
Sep 10. An OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER was along the South Beach dune
trail and TENNESSEE WARBLERS and BAY-BREASTED WARBLERS were found
along Raccoon Alley Sep 11. One to two PHILADELPHIA VIREOS have been
almost daily this week, with most reports from the Locust Grove and
Raccoon Alley. A LARK SPARROW, 2 CLIFF SWALLOWS, and 2 AMERICAN
PIPITS were found at the Salt Pond Sep 12. Three MARBLED GODWITS and
a BLACK TERN were at Spermaceti Cove Sep 15. A free, detailed birding

for daily reports.
Hunterdon County reports this week were of 3 AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVERS
and 5 AMERICAN PIPITS at Spruce Run Reservoir Sep 11. At nearby
Clinton WMA a CONNECTICUT WARBLER was found the same day. An OLIVE-
SIDED FLYCATCHER was noted at Voorhees State Park Sep 10.
Garret Mountain highlights this weekend were 2-3 CONNECTICUT WARBLERS
at the wet area south of the gazebo, GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH,
PHILADELPHIA VIREO, CAPE MAY WARBLER, HOODED WARBLER, BAY-BREASTED
WARBLER, all Sep 10; a RED-HEADED WOODPECKER was found west of the
tiered parking lot and relocated in the wet area Sep 12. Another
CONNECTICUT WARBLER was noted at Garret Sep 13.
A pelagic trip to the Hudson Canyon Sep 11 tallied 200 WILSON'S STORM-
PETRELS, 25 AUDUBON'S SHEARWATERS, 20 CORY'S SHEARWATERS, 6 RED-
NECKED PHALAROPES, and 2 juvenile LONG-TAILED JAEGERS.
