Voice of New Jersey Audubon - 9/25/2014
This is Scott Barnes with the Voice of New Jersey Audubon for Thursday September 25, 2014 with reports of SEDGE WREN, CONNECTICUT WARBLER, LARK SPARROW, CLAY-COLORED SPARROW, PINE SISKIN, seasonal and local reports of interest.

Sandy Hook sightings this week included a good passerine flight Sep 19 with SEDGE WREN and CLAY-COLORED SPARROW at K-lot, 2 PHILADELPHIA VIREOS, 17 species of warbler, and 2 LINCOLN?S SPARROWS. A LARK SPARROW was found at the north end of Raccoon alley Sep 21-22 and 4 CONNECTICUT WARBLERS were detected near the Officer?s club and locust grove areas Sep 22. Up to 4 AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVERS and 16 PIPING PLOVERS were found at the tidal cut/false hook area this week; other birds noted at the hook included YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER, DICKCISSEL, and 2 PINE SISKINS were noted Sep 24.

Palmyra Cove Nature Park had a good flight Sep 23 including 11 EASTERN WOOD-PEWEES, GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH, 15 species of warblers, and PURPLE FINCH.

Island Beach State Park birds this week included 4 YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS, 16 BROWN PELICANS, 6 MARBLED GODWITS, and 4 CASPIAN TERNS.

A GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER was found at Cattus Island Park in Toms River Sep 23.

A LARK SPARROW was found along the south dike at Forsythe (Brigantine) NWR Sep 24.

Chimney Rock Hawk Watch tallied 222 AMERICAN KESTRELS Sep 22 and 731 BROAD-WINGED HAWKS Sep 23. PHILADELPHIA VIREO and 17 species of warbler were noted there this week.

A CONNECTICUT WARBLER was found at Glenhurst Meadows Sep 16-19. Also there were 14 species of warbler including CAPE MAY WARBLER and TENNESSEE WARBLER, and LINCOLN?S SPARROW Sep 23.

Another CONNECTICUT WARBLER was seen at Great Swamp NWR at the start of the White Bridge Rd wilderness access trail Sep 18-20.

Wildcat Ridge Hawk Watch recorded 1,074 BROAD-WINGED HAWKS Sep 19.

The AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN continues this week at DeKorte Environment Center in Lyndhurst.

Liberty State Park had SORA and WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER this week.
