This is Scott Barnes with the Voice of New Jersey Audubon Society Audubon for Thursday September 5, 2013 with reports of EUROPEAN GOLDEN-PLOVER, BELL'S VIREO, BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER, BAIRD'S SANDPIPER, WESTERN KINGBIRD, and seasonal/local reports of interest.

A probable EUROPEAN GOLDEN-PLOVER was photographed at Forsythe (Brigantine) NWR this week. Other birds noted at Brig included a summering BRANT, 3 NORTHERN BOBWHITES, TRICOLORED HERON, AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER, 3 MARBLED GODWITS, up to 6 BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS and a BAIRD'S SANDPIPER at the dog-leg, 8 STILT SANDPIPERS, 12 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS, 2 GULL-BILLED TERNS, 40 CASPIAN TERNS, and 2 SALTMARSH SPARROWS.

A BELL'S VIREO was reported at Wargo Pond in the Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed Sep 5.

A WESTERN KINGBIRD was found at Oak Glen Park in Howell Twp Sep 3.

The sod farms along Rte 539 at Herbert Rd and Gordon Rd hosted up to 23 AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVERS and a BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER this week.

Sandy Hook reports this week included LEAST BITTERN, up to 6 AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVERS, BAIRD'S SANDPIPER, 3 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS, and a BLACK TERN at the tidal cut; a good migration day Sep 4 produced 18 species of warblers including TENNESSEE WARBLER, 2 BAY-BREASTED WARBLERS, MOURNING WARBLER, HOODED WARBLER, a BREWSTER'S WARBLER, and a DICKCISSEL.

Palmyra Cove Nature Park sightings Sep 4 included a COMMON RAVEN, 2 TENNESSEE WARBLERS, 5 BLACKBURNIAN WARBLERS, 6 CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLERS, and CANADA WARBLER.

Four AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVERS were noted along Flyatt Rd in Tabernacle Sep 2.

Two BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS were found along Bordentown-Chesterfield Rd in Chesterfield Twp Sep 2.

National Park in Gloucester County had BAIRD'S SANDPIPER, 2 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, 3 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS, 4 STILT SANDPIPERS, and 4 CASPIAN TERNS Sep 1.

Riverwinds in Gloucester County had 15 species of warblers Sep 4 including MOURNING WARBLER and WORM-EATING WARBLER; also there were 2 YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHERS.

Floodgates hosted 32 CASPIAN TERNS, 22 FORSTER'S TERNS, 50+ BOBOLINKS, and BLUE GROSBEAK Sep 1.

The Selody Sod Farm in Montgomery Twp had a fly-by WESTERN KINGBIRD, 4 AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVERS, BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER, and BAIRD'S SANDPIPER Sep 2-3.

A good count of 136 COMMON NIGHTHAWKS was tallied over the Great Swamp NWR Sep 2.

Chimney Rock had an OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER and 10 species of warbler including NASHVILLE WARBLER, CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER, and WORM-EATING WARBLER Sep 4.

Kittatinny Valley State Park had a PHILADELPHIA VIREO and HOODED WARBLER Sep 1.

Garret Mountain had 10+ species of warblers Sep 4 including BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER and a PHILADELPHIA VIREO.
