This is Scott Barnes with the Voice of New Jersey Audubon for Tuesday September 6, 2011 with reports of BROWN BOOBY, WHITE IBIS, BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER, CONNECTICUT WARBLER, seasonal and local reports of interest.

The BROWN BOOBY continues in Jarvis Sound at Cape May; see the daily blog for details.

An immature WHITE IBIS was found at Silver Lake in Park Ridge, Bergen County Sep 4-6. Look for the bird from Mill Street. Also in Bergen County at Allendale Celery Farm were YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER and CONNECTICUT WARBLER Sep 5.

Another WHITE IBIS continues at Forsythe (Brigantine) NWR through Sep 4. Other sightings from Brig Sep 2-4 included 2 SORAS in the southwest pool, AMERICAN AVOCET at the dog-leg, BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER, BAIRD?S SANDPIPER, and WILSON?S PHALAROPE in the northwest pool, 16 CASPIAN TERNS, 3-15 BLACK TERNS, and GULL-BILLED TERN.

Three BROWN PELICANS were noted off the end of Great Bay Blvd in Tuckerton Sep 4.

Sandy Hook sightings this week included a LARK SPARROW at K-lot Sep 3-5 and a different LARK SPARROW was noted at the end of the fisherman?s trail Sep 5. Three WILSON?S STORM-PETRELS were off the false hook Sep 3. A SORA was in the ephemeral pool at the south end of K-lot Sep 2. Nineteen species of shorebirds were noted at the hook this week including 16 PIPING PLOVERS, 12 RED KNOTS, BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER, 6 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS, STILT SANDPIPER, and 2 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS; all seen at the tidal cut/false hook area. Other birds noted at Sandy Hook this week were YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON at Horseshoe Cove, 2 CASPIAN TERNS at the false hook, YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER and OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER along the road to nowhere Sep 5, and WILSON?S WARBLER and YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT at Raccoon Alley Sep 2. Three BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS were found along Willow Brook Rd/Cross Farm Park in Holmdel Sep 4. Two BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS were noted along Rte 524 on sod fields between Allentown and Imlaystown Sep 4.

Island Beach Sept 3 had some nice birds in "Little Bay," including 23 BROWN PELICANS, 5 MARBLED GODWITS, 8 CASPIAN TERNS, 1 ROSEATE TERNS, and 2 SANDWICH TERNS.

Salem County sightings this week were of 1 to 4 SANDHILL CRANES at the Rte 45 crossing of Mannington Marsh, 2 COMMON GALLINULES at the Rte 620/Kings Highway crossing of Mannington Sep 2, and 60 CATTLE EGRETS along Compromise Rd.
