Voice of New Jersey Audubon - 9/9/1998
This is the Voice of NJ Audubon for Wed Sep 9 with reports of GODWITS, BAIRD'S SANDPIPER, other SHOREBIRDS, WARBLER flights, seasonal and local reports of interest.

A MARBLED GODWIT was at the natural area next to the Visitor Center in Liberty State Park, Jersey City Sep 6. A HUDSONIAN GODWIT was one of 10 shorebird species at Spruce Run Res. Sep 3. Also there, 3 BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS on Sep 7. Most of the shorebirds are at Van Sickel and Rte. 31, or at the mouth of Mulhockaway Creek.

Several BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS were at Brig Sep 3 along with STILT SANDPIPERS and WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS. The REDDISH EGRET and SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER previously reported there were not found again. [Details on both are sought by the NJ Bird Records Committee.]

STILT SANDPIPERS and WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS were also at the West Cape May Impoundments Sep 3 along with WILSON'S PHALAROPE. STILT SANDPIPERS were also at the Hackensack Meadows Environmental Center in Lyndhurst Sep 6 along with several hundred Yellowlegs.

There was a good flight at Sandy Hook Sep 5,6, 7 with 22 warblers per day. CONNECTICUT WARBLER, PHILADELPHIA VIREO, and OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER were at the Locust Grove; OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER, 4 CONNECTICUTS, one MOURNING WARBLER and a GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER were among the birds at the Brookdale maintenance area.
