The New Jersey Audubon Bird Sanctuary has staffed visitor centers that are open to the public, marked and maintained hiking trails and expert staff that you can ask questions about the center and wildlife in and around the center.  Don’t forget to browse our nature *stores for that perfect gift ranging from optics, bird seed, bird houses and so much more.

Cape May Bird Observatory – Northwood Center

Founded in 1976 by New Jersey Audubon, the Cape May Bird Observatory (CMBO) is a leader in research, environmental education, bird conservation, and recreational birding activities.

Lorrimer Nature Sanctuary
Franklin Lakes, NJ

Lorrimer is a 14 acre nature sanctuary that was bequeathed to the New Jersey Audubon by Ms. Lucine L. Lorrimer in 1956. The main house, parts of which date back to the late 1700’s, is the present visitors’ center and Sanctuary office

Nature Center of Cape May

The Nature Center of Cape May was founded in 1992, with the twin goals of creating a responsible stewardship program for open space surrounding Cape May Harbor and providing environmental education for people of all ages. The Center’s focus on “hands-on” activities reflects a philosophy of personal responsibility for education.

Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary
Bernardsville, NJ

The Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary, located in Bernardsville, Basking Ridge, and Harding Township, NJ, has its beginnings in the 1965 donation of 125 acres by Mr. and Mrs. Harry Scherman to New Jersey Audubon.  With additional land donations over the years the wildlife sanctuary is now at 276 acres.

Wattles Stewardship Center
Port Murray, NJ

This sanctuary is open sunrise to sunset, 7 days a week for passive recreation. A lower parking lot is available for visitors where there is also a kiosk with more details on the trails and property.

The Wattles Stewardship Center is located at 1024 Anderson Road, Port Murray, NJ. Driving north on Route 31 from Clinton travel approximately 7.8 miles and turn right at the light onto Asbury Anderson Road. Continuing approximately 4 miles to 1024 Anderson Road where the driveway is on the right and marked by a small brown sign labeled New Jersey Audubon. Travel past the driveway will bring you to Route 57 and from there on to Hackettstown.
