DON'T MISS:  In the spring and fall, climbing the lighthouse is a good way to orient oneself along the Atlantic flyway and grasp the vast distances traveled by the migratory shorebirds and sea ducks passing in the distance.

THROUGH THE SEASONS:
Winter:  American Robins and Song sparrows forage on the open lawn. Herring, Ring-billed, and Great Black-backed Gulls are conspicuous, and occasional flocks of Bonaparte’s Gull may be spotted over the ocean.
Spring:  Flocks of Gannet and ducks break the distant horizon. Laughing Gulls and Common Terns begin to return. Yellow-rumped and Palm Warblers move through shrubs.
Summer:  Tree Swallows, Purple Martins, and Chimney Swifts hunt over the suburban landscape. An occasional Black-crowned Night-Heron may cruise by at dusk. Fishing is good in the inlet, especially on the incoming tide. Summer Flounder, Bluefish, and Black Sea Bass can be caught from the nearby jetties.
Fall:  Scan towers and tall buildings for Peregrine Falcon. Sea ducks, gulls and Gannets move in South-bound flocks over the ocean. Monarch butterflies pass through the area in September and October.

SPECIAL FEATURES:  Live video feed allows handicapped visitors to see the view from the top of the lighthouse.
